21st June 2009 Other: Tiree Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Max Speed: Distance Covered: I name this entry the 'Tiree Experience' and covers sat 20th to the 21st. Went to the wonderful Island of Tiree to visit our friends Peter and Sally who have a house on Balephtrish Bay.I took 3 boards (all short) and sails from 4.7 to 7.5 and sadly there was not enough wind to get going on any of this kit :( The moral of this story is never leave home without your longboard and 9.4 !!! The lack of wind was the only downside as Tiree is a truely magical place with some of the best beaches in the world !!! and we camped in our van by the side of several of them with only sheep and sea birds for company.We saw dolphins,otters,wild birds and flowers too numerous to mention but sadly no basking sharks :( We even had an afternoon out in P & S 's boat looking, where we visited a stunning beach on Coll and then caught pollack and mackeral for a bbq on the beach !!! The highlight of the week was a walk to the 'Maze' beach where we did'nt see another person for 2 hours !!! We will go back in search of some wind and to enjoy the island life !!!!! |
